Motorcycle Rider Course

The Basic Rider course introduces the fundamentals of safe, responsible motorcycling including the knowledge and skills that lead to licensing and motorcycle operation on streets and highways.  A combination of online and classroom learning as well as range practice, covers the basics of motorcycle operation, effective braking, turning skills, obstacle avoidance, and safe riding strategies.  Upon successful course completion, participants receive a temporary Virginia motorcycle license and a waiver to all Virginia DMV, Motorcycle License testing requirements.  Successful completers may also qualify for up to a 10% insurance discount with many major motorcycle insurance companies.  For range practice activities, DOT approved helmets and 125cc to 500cc motorcycle are provided.  Participants may bring their own helmet if preferred.  Please see list of required clothing and equipment as well as other information on course and enrollment eligibility requirements MRC Flyer.pdf.  Enrollees MUST acknowledge understanding of all online and other course; enrollment eligibility requirements and registration policies Enrollment Eligibility Document.pdf as well as the “Heat Advisory” HeatAdvisoryDoc.pdf , AND sign the required “liability waiver” MRCLiabilityForm.pdf as part of the online registration process BEFORE registering for any scheduled Motorcycle Safety class.  IMPORTANT!  The class schedule publicized is for the in-person range (practice) portion of the class only.  All participants must complete the online portion of the class (estimated five hours to complete) BEFORE reporting to class for the range instructional and practice activities.
